To achieve gender equality, it is not enough for women to speak up. They must share their stories. Speaking up and sharing has many clear advantages: it promotes equality, breaks corporate stereotypes, and encourages professionals to start thinking about their careers free from preconceived cultural constructs.

Gender in education and the workforce has changed over the past 100 years with women gaining in representation, equitable pay, and recognition. In this lecture, Amma Yeboah presents perspectives on gender disparities in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and addresses issues concerning recent data on gaps in representation, compensation, and recognition, as well as evidence on leading explanations for these gaps. Biological implications of Sex in medical terms with emphasis on the spectrum in human biology will be presented as well. Finally, current knowledge on interventions to change individuals’ beliefs and behaviors, as well as organizational culture and practices will be discussed

Picture a scientists - Film streaming event

PICTURE A SCIENTIST chronicles the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights.
Interested parties could watch the film "Picture a Scientist" for free. In order to talk about what we saw and to find out what we as a society and scientists can do to stop the unequal treatment of women, a roundtable discussion took place the day after with Anneliese Niehoff.
Curie_Meitner_Lamarr_indivisible

Three outstanding pioneers represent the achievements of women in the field of science and technology: The double Nobel Price winner and discoverer of radioactivity Marie Curie (1867-1934), the Austrian-Swedish nuclear physicist Lise Meitner (1878-1968), and the Viennese Hollywood actress Hedy Lamarr (1914-2000) with the invention of frequency hopping.
Incidents of their lives, achievements, and impediments as well as the contents of their research and the passion for their work are in the center of the theatre play „Curie_Meitner_Lamarr_indivisible“, produced by the Viennese association portraittheater. Illustrated with music and videos with three girls the performance shows within 95 minutes an entertaining portrait of extraordinary women in history.

Soapbox Science is a public outreach event promoting women in science and the science they do. The streets become an open platform to engage in interesting talks and discussions in a fun and interactive way. Soapbox science events give everyone and anyone the opportunity to learn about science and interact with scientists.
